Nordic-Knot: Where Heritage Meets Culinary Creativity

Nordic-Knot isn’t just about pretzels—it’s a celebration of craftsmanship, community, and culinary innovation. Founded by Eric Lundberg and Melissa Romano in 2017, (Melissa and her husband Jason also own Lake Anne Brew House), this dynamic duo has combined their unique talents to create a brand beloved by food enthusiasts and businesses alike. From Eric’s Swedish-inspired pretzels to Melissa’s show-stopping charcuterie spreads, Nordic-Knot, located in Reston, Virginia, offers a little something for everyone.

Their signature pretzels, crafted with a nod to Eric’s Nordic heritage, have earned a loyal following, while Melissa’s charcuterie creations—ranging from personalized boxes to large-scale corporate grazing tables—never fail to impress. And let’s not forget their decadent Chocolate Pretzel Croissant, a standout item at the Lake Anne Farmers Market that sells out week after week.

Nordic-Knot has become a shining example of how tradition and creativity can come together to build something truly special. With a dedication to quality and innovation, they continue to delight customers and inspire the culinary world. In this exclusive interview, we explore how Nordic-Knot, one of our commercial photography clients, has grown into the beloved brand it is today, what inspires their creations, and what exciting plans are on the horizon for 2025.

What inspired the unique name 'Nordic-Knot'? Does it have a special meaning to you?

Eric: My Nordic roots trace back to my Swedish ancestry, which has always been a source of pride and inspiration for me. The name "Nordic-Knot" reflects this heritage—"Nordic" honors my Scandinavian background, while "Knot" nods to the iconic shape of the pretzel. These pretzels, however, are far from the traditional German variety.

The recipe was born from countless hours in the kitchen with my daughter Kayla. Together, we experimented, adjusted, and refined until we created something truly unique—a Scandinavian-inspired pretzel that’s entirely our own. This recipe is more than just a culinary creation; it’s a testament to creativity, collaboration, and the joy of crafting something special with family.

What’s been the most rewarding part of seeing Nordic-Knot grow?

Eric: I’ve enjoyed watching the business grow from an idea into a fully sustainable operation. Building something from the ground up while learning and adapting along the way has been incredibly fulfilling.

What’s coming up for Nordic-Knot in 2025?

Melissa: Nordic-Knot is working towards further expansion in 2025 and is currently working on plans for doubling our production capacity and square footage again. In 2023, we added a second production facility, and this year we are looking to grow again. Our target market of resellers, which includes restaurants, breweries, cafes, sports venues and entertainment venues continues to grow and we are always on the lookout for new resellers.
